Applied Operational Research

2021/2022

Welcome: Students of the ISA master's courses in Forestry Engineering and Natural Resources and MEDfOR - Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management.

Objectives: Understanding the basic concepts of some methodologies of Operations Research, as Monte Carlo simulation, linear programming, integer linear programming and multi-objective linear programming. Ability to identify and formulate a wide variety of problems that can be solved with these methodologies, in particular in the forest domain.

Program: Linear programming | Integer linear programming | Multi-objective linear programming Monte Carlo simulation .

Students evaluation: continuous evaluation and/or final exam.Continuous evaluation - one individual test on March 31 (with score 40% of 20) and two assignments to be performed during class, one on May 4 and the other on May 26 ( the assignments should be done by groups of 2 students and each has a score of 30% of 20). The final grade is the sum of the grades obtained in the individual test and in the two assignments.
If the score of continuous evaluation is less than 10, the student can take the final exam and choose between i) or ii):
i) to answer only the topics addressed in the individual test of the continuous evaluation, which scores 40% of 20. The final score is the sum of the exam grade and the two assignments.
ii) the complete exam, covering all topics taught in class (with score 20).
A student is approved if the grade of continuous evaluation  or the final exam grade is at least 10.

The students can improve a positive score in the second call of the exame, which includes all the topics addressed in class.

The first exam call takes place on June 17th, 10am, room 2.11.
The second exam call takes place on June 30th, 10am, room 2.11
