2011 - Doctoral degree in Forest Engineering, “Cork oak Designation potential as a producer of raw materials for sawmill and industry of wood composite panels, to obtain wood quality products”.

Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Universidade de Lisboa.

Main competences:

  • Study of the technological viability of cork oak wood towards its use to produce solid wood pieces (direct collaboration with local sawmills AJI and Silva&Silva);
  • Development of 3D modeling and simulation techniques for the industrial conversion of this wood (direct collaboration with VTT-Technical Research Centre of Finland);
  • Evaluation of wood properties for the production of flooring components (hardness, wear and dimensional stability) (direct collaboration with LNEC- National Laboratory of Civil Engineer).

This project took place in a local sawmill AJI – Indústria de Madeiras Lda., and in Finland at VTT - Technical Research Centre of Finland.  Supervision was done by: Professor Helena Pereira (ISA), José Manuel Pires (AJI) and by Dr. Arto Usenius and Dr. Isabel Pinto-Seppä (VTT).
