Module 2: protected species and sites for vegetation conservation. Introduction to vegetation mapping (III/III) – Valorization of floristic and habitat diversity

29 Setembro 2025, 16:15 Selma Beatriz de Almeida Nunes da Pena Baldaia

Valorization of floristic and habitat diversity through landscape-scale approaches to nature conservation, ecological restoration, and fire-resilient territorial planning. Presentation of different projects. Analysis of common lands (baldios) as multifunctional landscapes, highlighting their ecological, social, and cultural value, current challenges, and legal framework, supported by the Fajão–Vidual case study. Presentation of methodologies for landscape diagnosis and transformation, including habitat assessment, identification of restoration hotspots, ecological connectivity, and green infrastructure design, with a focus on Natura 2000 sites and headwater systems. Discussion of landscape planning models, particularly the FIRELAN model, integrating vegetation potential, land morphology, fire behavior, and ecosystem services. Evaluation of policy instruments and governance frameworks supporting landscape transformation, emphasizing participatory approaches, biodiversity enhancement, and the role of vegetation mapping in planning future resilient landscapes.
