A short summary of the present position

Professor and researcher at ISA. Main research topics cover the understanding and modeling of the effect of climate, soil, and ecosystem management practices on tree and cork growth, grounded on data from long term trials and plots. Founding member of the European Agroforestry Federation (EURAF). Currently national delegate for Portugal. Coordinates ISA's participation in the AFINET project, and is a member of the Incredible project team.

 

Synopsis of a trajectory

The 5-years degree in Forestry (2001) was followed by a master in Probability and Statistics (2003). At that time, the collaboration in several research projects developed on the topics of forest modeling and forest management allowed accomplishing a Ph.D. in Forestry and Natural Resources Management. The thesis was developed under the subject: 'Development of a growth and yield model for the sustainable management of cork oak stands', and was concluded in 2011.

From 2001 has participated in the team of several research projects, many of then with a European scope, coordinating task and work packages in some of them. See the full list here.

Founding member of the European Agroforestry Federation. Acted as a national delegate from 2012 to 2014, and was a member of the executive board as deputy treasurer from 2014 to 2016 and secretary from 2016 to 2018. Currently occupies the position of national delegate since the election held in May 2018.

Frequently teaches classes on the topics of Forest modeling, Forest inventory, Agroforestry and Statistical sampling methods, included in Forestry bachelor and master courses of Instituto Superior de Agronomia (see full CV). Is experienced in the role of supervisor of master thesis, and is currently the main supervisor of two ongoing Ph.D. thesis.

Internationalization and networking are promoted by the participation in several international and national research projects (see full CV). It allows the collaboration with different research units and institutions and is considered essential for the development of a career plan that integrates and balances education and research.
